When I am overwhelmed

He covers his ears, rocks, or pulls away when he feels overwhelmed.

When I am calm

Relaxed shoulders, steady breathing, and interest in his iPad mean he is settled.

What helps me

A quiet space, fewer people, and a calm voice help him settle. Give him time and do not rush him.

How to help me settle

  1. 1Lower your voice and reduce the noise around him.
  2. 2Give him space. Do not crowd or touch him without warning.
  3. 3Offer his iPad so he can tell you what he needs.
  4. 4Wait calmly and give him time to settle before moving on.

Conditions

  • Autism spectrum disorder, level 2, nonverbal. Communicates with Proloquo2Go on an iPad.
  • Epilepsy, focal seizures, managed with Keppra.

  • Keppra 750mg, twice daily
